ABOUT US

Established in 2019 by former business partners & forever friends, Alix Haddy & Jesse Keast, Good Grief Coffee Roasters was created to be anything other than “just another coffee shop” (which is hard to do in a town of just 2000 people and 4 other cafes on the same street). Happily, though, what started with a simple millennial dream of slinging coffees with a bestie quickly evolved into so much more.

After just 8 short months of operation, like many other businesses, Good Grief was thrown to the big bad wolf of Covid-19. Thanks to a lot of hard work, perseverance & an amazing local community, we came out on the other side stronger, wiser & exponentially more weathered than any 30-something should be. And even though curveballs are always guaranteed to be thrown…looking at you clogged milk pipe pouring into the basement all over the green coffee on a Saturday afternoon…we continue to take each one in stride to offer the best darn roast we can boast.

We take great care in selecting the beans we bring into Good Grief and source our coffees through a sustainable importer who works to create meaningful relationships with producers that help to move coffee forward. With a Q-graded roaster on the team, our coffee-selecting process is as thorough as it is heart-palpitating; we drink a lot of coffee. To help get our beans into your homes and hearts, we ship worldwide and offer local pick-up.

We also offer house-made pastries like doughnuts and bagels (boy, do we love round food) in our cafe. Our head baker, Micah Smith, has been with us since January 2020 and has brought life and creative flair to our kitchen. We change our doughnut flavours monthly to ensure fresh flavours and ideas are hitting the mouths of our customers on the regular. Have any flavour suggestions? We’d love to hear them!

As we continue to grow, roast, & create out of our pink tiled home in Thornbury, ON we are now solely led by Alix, our feisty short stack who never met a challenge she didn’t face head-on (except moving green coffee beans… she can barely open a jar let alone move a 120 lb sack of dead weight). If you can’t make the trip to visit us in Thornbury, check out our list of wholesalers who offer our specialty roasts across Ontario, order your supply online, or click here to become a wholesaler yourself.
